E-Training World has launched the very first dedicated online eco driving and manoeuvring course.
As the very first of its kind in the fleet sector, drivers can select whether they drive a car, a van or an LGV and benefit from training on reducing small knocks and scrapes caused by poor manoeuvring.
The online course also focuses on how to reduce fuel consumption and is tailored directly towards saving companies money through the avoidance of unecessary costs.
"When a company driver has a small knock or scrape, they don't always give it a great deal of thought," said Graham Hurdle, managing director of E-Training World.
"However, fleet managers will tell you that once you start adding up the costs of even the slightest incident they can become very expensive indeed. If we take the example of a cracked bumper caused by a driver reversing into another car, there is not only the cost of a new bumper, there is the cost of the dent in the other vehicle. There is also the administration and management cost of dealing with the incident and all the paperwork, the downtime of the driver, provision of an alternative vehicle whilst it is being repaired - the list goes on. A small knock can run up a total bill of between £5,000 and £10,000.
"Many drivers also don't appreciate the expense caused by leaving a vehicle idling, of poor route planning, constant harsh acceleration and braking and all the factors that contribute to fuel wastage. Added up across 20,000 miles per year for a 200 vehicle fleet its a lot of money."
As well as providing training, the online system helps drivers realise the true cost of small knocks and scrapes, demonstrating what additional turnover is required for their business to generate the profits to pay for their indescretion behind the wheel.
"We're trying to bring eco driving and manoeuvring to the forefront of people's mind as it is a real headache to many fleets", concluded Hurdle.
